Danny Rosin, co-founder of Brand Fuel, on leading PPAI, the landmark carbon study,
and bringing more punk rock energy to promo.

If you’ve spent more than five minutes with our co-founder Danny Rosin, you know he isn’t exactly a “sit-in-the-back-and-stay-quiet” kind of guy. Whether he’s talking about the magic of a well-designed T-shirt or the importance of community building, he does it with a level of energy that could power a small city.

Recently, Danny sat down for a podcast episode that was so full of heart, humor, and Hunter S. Thompson quotes that we just had to share the highlights with you.

The Punk Rock Board Chair

You might have heard the news: Danny is the newly seated board chair at PPAI. But if you’re picturing a stuffy boardroom with mahogany tables and polite golf claps, think again. Danny’s official profile photo is a punk rock mosh pit. Why? Because he believes our industry needs a little more edge, a little more diversity, and a lot more “mohawks.”

His rallying cry? “Buy the ticket, take the ride.” It’s an invitation to stop playing it safe. Danny’s philosophy is simple: in a world that’s getting increasingly digital and automated, the “human” element is our superpower. He’s calling for a “re-humanization” of branded merchandise, focusing on in-person, physical experiences that actually mean something.

“Go to the Pain” (The Good Kind!)

One of our favorite takeaways from the episode was Danny’s advice to a frustrated teammate: “Go to the pain.” It sounds a bit intense, right? But here’s the wisdom: if a job is easy, a computer can do it. The “pain” (the complex sourcing, the creative problem solving, the deep relationship building) is where the real value lives. That’s where we, as humans, beat the algorithms every single time.

Big Moves for the Planet

Danny also talked about something near and dear to our B Corp hearts: Sustainability. Brand Fuel participated in a first-of-its-kind carbon study between PPAI and ASI. The big discovery? Promotional products actually generate significantly less carbon per impression than digital advertising.

We’ve always known that a great hoodie lasts longer than a pop-up ad, but now we have the data to prove it! Danny is leading the charge to ensure that what his business partner, Robert Fiveash, calls our industry’s “survivability” is tied directly to how well we take care of the planet.

The “Super Friends” & The Empty Chair

PPAI’s vision, as led by CEO Drew Holmgreen and CMO Melissa Ralston, for the future involves a “Super Friends” model that brings together marketing and advertising giants to show them just how powerful branded merch can be, and we can get behind that, too.

But Danny’s coolest idea? Placing a T-shirt that simply says “Member” on an empty chair during every board meeting. It’s a constant, physical reminder that every decision made in that room should serve members: the people who make this industry move.

Why We’re Still “Fueling” the Fire

From the early days of a 44-year friendship with his Brand Fuel business partner, Robert, to being early adopters of tech platforms like commonsku, Danny attributes Brand Fuel’s success to one thing: Community. As Danny puts it, “I think there’s going to be a movement around more H2H – human-to-human work.” We couldn’t agree more. We’re not just selling “stuff.” We’re selling connection, creativity… and a little bit of punk-rock ‘n’ roll.

Check out the episode, hosted by our dear friend and the industry’s poet laureate, Bobby Lehew, to hear Danny talk about AI literacy, why we need more tattoos and piercings in the boardroom, and the Old English roots of the word “sell.” Trust us, it’s a ride worth taking!

How do you feel about the shift from tech and AI to “re-humanization” and its place in branding?

Are you ready to let us take the pain out of your brand merchandising equation?

Congrats to Danny for joining the “Most Listened to Podcast” in the print and promotional products industry!
